State police fire marshals are working to determine the cause of a residential fire that broke out in Wilkes-Barre early Friday morning. Firefighters were dispatched to a home on Dougher Lane at approximately 3 a.m. after reports of a structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found active flames and began an aggressive interior attack to contain the damage. While the home sustained significant fire and smoke damage, the sole occupant—a woman who was inside when the blaze began—was able to evacuate the building unharmed.
City fire officials called in the Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal to assist with the investigation. Investigators spent several hours on the scene Friday morning sift through debris to identify the point of origin. No other injuries were reported, and the American Red Cross is reportedly assisting the displaced resident with emergency housing and essential supplies.
