Tua Tagovailoa is in his second stint of the concussion protocol this season and the details of how he got there are quite alarming.

According to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, the Miami Dolphins quarterback was in a film session Monday with head coach Mike McDaniel who asked Tagovailoa why he made certain decisions on certain throws but the quarterback could not remember some of the plays.

This prompted the Dolphins to send Tagovailoa to the medical team to be evaluated and was determined that he would be placed in the concussion protocol.

Glazer said that Tua has expressed his desire that he would like to play again this season should the Dolphins make the playoffs.

Of course, that is easier said than done as multiple concussions in one season can take a toll on a player and it may be too dangerous to send Tua back out on the field this season.

The Dolphins’ medical staff will also need to clear Tagovailoa before he can return to the field, which has yet to be done.

Both of Tagovailoa’s concussions stints prompted investigation by the NFL and NFLPA to see if the Dolphins were correctly following protocol.

No wrongdoing was found in the most recent case, but the NFLPA did fire an unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant following the first investigation, which occurred in a Week 4 game when Tagovailoa was carted off the field with a head injury.

Just four days prior, Tagovailoa was taken out of the game after stumbling following a hit, but returned after missing just three offensive snaps.

Should Tagovailoa return to the field at all this season, it will likely prompt even further discussion and debate around the NFL’s concussion protocol and whether or not it is the right decision to let him play considering his concussion history.
