New Haven police seek witnesses of a noontime shooting

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTIC Radio)—New Haven police are calling on witnesses to come forward as officers investigate a shooting that sent a man to the hospital in serious condition Tuesday.

The New Haven police department received a Shot Spotter alert at about 12:12 p.m. of gunfire on Whalley Avenue between Norton Street and Winthrop Avenue, officials said.

Upon arrival, officers located a 24-year-old New Haven man with gunfire-related injuries, police said.

An American Medical Response team transported the victim to Yale New Haven Hospital. He was listed in critical condition due to his life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The city police department is asking any witnesses who have not yet spoken with investigators to contact the department's Investigative Services Division at 203-946-6304.

Police remind citizens that callers may remain anonymous. They may also submit tips anonymously by calling 1-866-888-TIPS (8477) or by texting "NHPD" and the message to 274637 (CRIMES).
