(Hartford, Conn.-WTIC) Connecticut Senate leaders are pushing their respective agendas for the legislative session starting in January.
Senate President Martin Looney(D-New Haven) says his plans include adopting a budget and making the tax code more progressive. He also wants to move toward a public option for health care and legalizing marijuana.
Kevin Kelly(R-Stratford) says his biggest concern is helping the middle class struggling during the pandemic.
Kelly says unfortunately many Republicans"didn't make it across the line in Connecticut. But the Senate is 24-12, which is a veto-proof majority."
Senator Looney says he wants a more progressive tax code, trying to relieve the burden on local property taxes. "because that tax is actually the one residents find more burdensome that any other levied by the state," he said.
Kelly says" Democrats look to the working middle-class wallet as the solution to every government problem"
Looney, who becomes the longest-serving Senator in Connecticut starting in January, says he also wants "to look for more creative ways to make people in the state have quality health insurance at an affordable cost."
