(WWJ) An investigation is underway into a deadly single-car crash over the weekend in Oakland County.

It happened at around 5:45 p.m. Sunday, along 9 Mile Rd. near Currie Rd. in Lyon Township.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, a 24-year-old man from Washtenaw County's Salem Township Michigan was driving a 2005 Subaru Impreza east on 9 Mile when he lost control of his vehicle and left the roadway.

The car struck a mailbox and then four trees, officials said.

The Lyon Township Fire Department extricated the driver from the vehicle and the Huron Valley Ambulance Service took him to Ascension Providence Park Hospital in Novi where he died of his injuries.

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt, according to investigators.

His name was not released.

The sheriff's office said alcohol does not appear to have been involved, but that investigators believe speed was a factor.
