(WWJ) Detroit Police are negotiating with a distraught, armed man holed up in a home on the city’s west side.
WWJ's Mike Campbell reported, Friday morning, that officers had surrounded the house on Rockdale, off W. Warren Ave. near Evergreen.
Police said, at 4:30 p.m., they got a call from the 62-year-old man's relatives saying he was armed and threatening to kill himself.
"This man is undergoing cancer treatment and also has a history of pretty extreme mental health," Detroit Police Commander Darin Szilagy at the scene. "This man is very distraught, armed with a long gun and a pistol, and he keeps coming out on the porch with a gun to his head, asking our officer to shoot him."
Szilagy said police continue to be in contact with the man, and they plan to wait him out.
There have been no shots fires and injuries reported.
A couple neighborhood streets in the area have been blocked to keep residents safe.
