State Police Warn Drivers Speeding Over 100 Mph On I-75, M-59, I-696

(WWJ) "A crash at these speeds is usually deadly," warn Michigan State Police, who say a dozen drivers were caught speeding near, at or over 100 miles per hour in metro Detroit this past weekend.

"One of the biggest complaints we have gotten from citizens, other than violations of physical distancing, has been drivers traveling at excessive speeds," MSP said. 

The Metro North Post concentrated on those excessive drivers over the weekend, and issued the following citations:

On  I-75 in northern Oakland County:

  • 110 mph in a 70 mph zone
  • 83 in a construction zone
  • 100 mph in a 70 mph zone
  • 104 mph in a 70 mph zone
  • 95 mph in a 70 mph zone
  • 102 mph in a 70 mph zone
  • 104 mph in a 70 mph zone
  • 101 mph in a 70 mph zone

On M-59:

  • 104 mph in a 70 mph zone
  • 101 mph in a 70 mph zone

Along the I-696/I-96 corridor:

  • 111 mph in a 70 mph zone
  • 103 in a 70 mph zone

This comes after police said dedicated traffic patrol recorded speeds of 107, 120, 106, 100, 116, 100, 100, 102, 110, 100, 100, 102, 110, 100, 111, 101, 100, 100, 100, 102, 109, 102, 117, and 100 across Oakland and Macomb County during the month of April.

"We realize with the Stay at Home order that there is less traffic out on the roads. However, the same speed limits still apply," police stressed. "We want you to be safe as we deal with this virus. We also want you to be safe on Michigan’s roadways."
