(WWJ) A Howell man had died after authorities say he was crushed in a tragic construction site accident.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, the victim was part of a crew working on a pipeline, Thursday afternoon, in the area of Woodruff Lake Rd. and Center Rd. in Highland Township.

Sheriff's investigators determined the driver of a dump truck was standing outside of his truck, between a large pile of the wooden construction road mats and the front driver side of the truck. When the excavator spun to load the truck, it disturbed the pile of wooden mats causing a mat to be pushed into the man, crushing him between the truck and the mat.

The man was pinned in place, but other construction workers pulled him out before emergency responders got to the scene.

Life-saving measures were attempted at the scene, officials said, and the man was taken by EMS to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. His names has not been released.

Results of an autopsy to be preformed by the Oakland County Medical Examiner are pending,

MIOSHA was contacted, and the sheriff’s office Chaplaincy Corps responded to assist the man’s co-workers.

The investigation is ongoing.
