Troy police arrest man found with gun in shopping bag after incident at Somerset mall

(WWJ) A Downriver man is facing charges following an incident at the Somerset Collection in Troy. 

At around 4:15 p.m. on Oct. 2, Troy police were called to the Somerset Collection, on W. Big Beaver Rd., on report of a possible assault involving a gun in the Nordstrom store.

When officers arrived they spotted a group of four people  running across Big Beaver (16 Mile Rd.) through traffic, including a man that matched the description of one of the combatants.

Officers found that the man had a glock semiautomatic handgun in one of his shopping bags, police said,

The man — since identified as 21-year-old Michael Deonte James of Taylor — was arrested and charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Felony Firearm and Possession of a Firearm.

He was arraigned on Saturday and ordered held on a  $50,000 cash/surety bond.

Officials said James also had an outstanding probation warrant from an armed robbery charge.

Police did not release any further details about the Nordstrom incident, at the investigation continues.

Officers are still working to identify the other people who were involved.
