(WWJ) Local and federal law enforcement officers did some digging Friday beneath a restaurant in Detroit.
Auburn Hills police, along with Michigan State Police and FBI agents were on the scene at Galaxy Coney Island at Schaefer Hwy. at W. Grand River Ave., near I-96.
A search warrant was served at the business after authorities got information that there might be a body buried in the basement.
Auburn Hills Deputy Chief of Police Ryan Gagnon said the search was in connection with the case of 30-year-old Rita Gjergjaj, who disappeared back in February of 2001.
Gjergjaj's ex-husband, who was suspected of killing her, fled the country and then killed himself last year.
The dig was completed by mid-afternoon.
"Based on the information in the investigation, we obtained probable cause to believe that she was buried here," Auburn Hills Deputy Chief of Police Ryan Gagnon told reporters. "I can tell you right now she has not been found here, at this location. I want to ask the public's help, if they know anything about this information, to bring closure to the family, if they know where the remains of Rita Gjergjaj (are) to contact the Auburn Hills Police Department."
The investigation is ongoing.
