(WWJ) Authorities say the victims of a double homicide in Warren were a woman in her 20s and a 6-year-old boy.

According to Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer, two people were found dead Thursdays morning at a home on Otis Avenue, in the area of 9 Mile Rd. and Dequindre, on the city's south side.

Reports say the victims were shot, but Dwyer did not immediately confirm that. He also declined to comment on a possible motive.

Warren Mayor Jim Fouts said he's outraged.

"It's just a horrible crime," the mayor said, speaking to WWJ Newsradio 950 Thursday afternoon. "Who would kill a small child, almost a baby? Who would kill a baby?"

"This is a horrible crime, and it needs to be solved as soon as possible," Fouts said.

Fouts said police are investigating whether these murders are linked to another killing. According to authorities, someone the woman was associated with, a friend or a romanic partner, was murdered in Detroit.

The man was found dead around 2 a.m., in a burned vehicle in the 2100 block of Hyde.

Details are still developing, as the investigation continues.

"The fact that we have two separate crimes — both murders, in different cities — would indicate that there's probably a cause of this," Fouts said. "I'm not free to say what that is, but the police will be investigating this around the clock until this crime is solved."

It's unclear if the woman was the child's mother, and the victims' names are being withheld at this time.

These are the eighth and ninth homicides in Warren, Michigan's third most populous city, in 2020.
