DETROIT (WWJ) - Someone in Metro Detroit just got a whole lot richer.
One ticket sold in Oakland County matched all six numbers in Wednesday night's Powerball drawing to win the $70 million jackpot.
"Whoever has got that ticket, they've got a life changing amount of money," said Lottery Spokesperson Jeff Holyfield. "Because $70 million, obviously big money, but even the cash option of that is right at $50 million. So after the tax withholdings we're required to do, you're looking at $35.7 million. The annuity option, you're talking about 30 escalating payments. The first one would be for $1 million and the thirtieth payment would be $4.36 million."
The winning numbers are: 14-47-54-55-68, Powerball 25.
Michigan Lottery officials say the ticket was sold at Huron Plaza Liquor in Pontiac, on W. Huron Street just east of Telegraph Road. The store will get a $50,000 bonus commission when the jackpot prize is claimed.
Holyfield said the lucky winner should talk to a financial planner, an accountant and an attorney to explore their options and make well informed decisions before claiming their winnings at the lottery headquarters in downtown Lansing.
The Powerball jackpot now resets to $40 million for Saturday's drawing.
