(WWJ) While having a few beers or a cocktail on the lake might sound like fun to some, one Michigan resident got busted.

A Grand Rapids woman is facing a charge of Boating Under the Influence (BUI) following an incident in Wexford County.

Michigan State Police at the Cadillac Post say troopers responded to Lake Cadillac at around 6:40 p.m. Thursday on a report that two personal watercraft were involved in a crash.

Witnesses told investigators that one of the two operators appeared to be drunk, according to MSP.

The two people, who knew each other, were on the shore by the time troopers arrived.

One of them, identified as a 56-year-old Grand Rapids woman, allegedly admitted that she'd been drinking alcohol. Police said she was then found to be over the limit for watercraft operation, which is .08% BAC (blood alcohol content) or greater, under Michigan law.

The woman was arrested and taken to the Wexford County Jail. She was still there, awaiting an arraignment Friday morning.

Under Michigan law, a first-offense BUI is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 45 days of community service, a maximum of 93 days in jail, fines of $100 to $500, or a combination of those.  The court can also suspend the offender’s privilege to operate a motorboat for one to two years.

No one was injured.
