(WWJ) He pulled up shortly after the package was delivered, and grabbed it.
Roseville police say they're looking for a "porch pirate."
The entire incident was captured on video Tuesday, at home in the 27000 block of Groveland Street, just north of I-696 and west of Gratiot Ave., in Roseville.
According to police, the resident got an alert that a box had had been delivered by UPS, and left on the porch. A short time later, at 5:35 p.m., home security video shows an unknown dark colored car drive up and park in front of the home. The driver got out, sauntered up to the porch and took the package.
He then returned to his vehicle and fled the area, police said.
The suspect is described as a male with a thin build. He was wearing a red Adidas brand hooded sweatshirt, white jogging pants, blue latex gloves and a blue backpack.
The Roseville Criminal Investigations Division is asking for the public's help to identify the wanted thief, so he can be arrested and prosecuted.
As of December, 2019, a new law targeting "porch pirates" creates state penalties for stealing mail or packages in Michigan, allowing for more options for state prosecution. Under Public Act 48, a first offense is a misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in jail and a $500 fine. A repeat offense is a felony, punishable by to five years in prison a $1,000 fine.
Anyone who can identify the man in the video, or who had any information about this crime, is asked to call Roseville Police Det. Jeremy Scicluna at 586-447-4510.
