2 Detroit teens who allegedly shot, killed 19-year-old captured by Port Huron police after foot chase

A pair of teenaged boys were arrested in Port Huron on Wednesday evening after authorities said they fatally shot a 19-year-old and tried to run from police.

PORT HURON (WWJ) - A pair of teenaged boys were arrested in Port Huron on Wednesday evening after authorities said they fatally shot a 19-year-old and tried to run from police.

According to the Port Huron Police Department, officers received a report of shots fired in the 1300 block of Lapeer Ave. around 6 p.m. on July 12. When they arrived at the scene, police found a 19-year-old man from Port Huron with gunshot wounds.

The victim was rushed to McLaren Port Huron Hospital by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.

Other officers remaining at the crime scene were able to get a description of the alleged shooter and his accomplice. A short while later, two individuals were spotted nearby that matched the suspects' description.

The pair tried to run from police, but after a brief foot chase, both were taken into custody. They've since been identified as two 15-year-old boys from Detroit.

Port Huron police were assisted by deputies with the Clair County Sheriff's Office, officers from the Marysville Police Department and troopers with Michigan State Police.

Investigators were able to locate a firearm during a search of the surrounding neighborhood that they believe was used to fatally shoot the 19-year-old, but are still seeking additional witnesses and evidence in the case.
