DETROIT (WWJ) – The search continues for those responsible in a fatal downtown Detroit shooting over the holiday weekend that claimed the life of a 19-year-old man.

Detroit police officials say the shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. Sunday near Bates and Cadillac Square, just east of Campus Martius Park.

The investigation indicates the victim and some of his friends were walking in the area and were being loud and "jostling with each other," Detroit Police Chief James White said during a press conference Tuesday afternoon.

White said another group of people in the area thought they were yelling at them and an argument ensued.

"Inexplicably, guns were pulled and one person fired shots into the crowd," White said.

The 19-year-old died, while another person was apparently shot in the ankle, White said.

Authorities said the suspects fled the scene in a gray 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Michigan license plate No. EMK8273.

White said one person of interest in the case is in custody and a weapon has been recovered.

Police released a photo on Sunday of another man believed to be involved in the shooting. He was considered to be armed and dangerous.

Police on Tuesday released more photos of two females they believe are people of interest in the case. Authorities did not identify them as suspects, but said they may have been involved.
