Investigation underway after early morning shooting near Western Michigan University campus

KALAMAZOO (WWJ) – An investigation is underway after a shooting near the campus of Western Michigan University early Sunday morning.

WMU Public Safety officials announced around 4:45 a.m. they were investigating a report of a shooting in the 1300 block of Knollwood – near Miller Auditorium and a number of fraternity and sorority houses.

Authorities told people in the area to use caution.

A 28-year-old Lansing resident was found in the area with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the shoulder, according to a report from WXYZ.

Kalamazoo Public Safety officials said they are searching for a suspect and will have an increased police presence on campus.

A possible motive in the shooting is unclear.

Authorities have not released a description of the suspect.
