WESTLAND (WWJ) -- A 10-year-old elementary school student is being treated for knife wounds after he was attacked by another child at a school bus stop in Westland.

Westland Police said Thursday they are questioning a fourth-grader and his parent after another fourth-grader was stabbed in the hand and the leg. Police said both children involved are students at Schweitzer Elementary School in the Wayne-Westland School District.

According to police, the two students got into a fight while they were waiting for the bus Thursday morning, at Booth and Short Streets south off Parlmer and west of Wayne Rd.

"The 9-year-old allegedly pulled out a pocked knife and stabbed the 10-year-old in the hand," WWJ's Mike Campbell reported. "I'm not sure stabbed is the word, maybe slashed. And then he hit him in the leg as well."

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment, police told Campbell, and the suspect was taken into custody.

Police said the case is still being investigated, and that the matter will be referred to the Wayne County Juvenile Division for possible charges.

School and Wayne Westland School District Administrators have also investigated and say appropriate disciplinary action will be taken, though what that is is not clear.
