GROSSE POINTE WOODS (WWJ) - A teenaged girl is facing a criminal charge, one day after allegedly making a threat at Grosse Pointe North High School and prompting a lockdown of over 1,500 students.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office announced that a 14-year old student, whose name has not been released, is charged with filing a false report or threat of terrorism stemming from an incident at the school in Grosse Pointe Woods on Dec. 19.
Prosecutors say the school entered a brief lockdown after authorities received information about a potential active shooter threat.
Police were immediately called to the scene and after an investigation, determined there was no active shooter or any threat to students or staff.
The lockdown was lifted around 1:05 p.m.
The teen appeared for a preliminary hearing Tuesday afternoon at the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Center before Magistrate Leslie Graves. She received a $2,000/10% cash bond, and was ordered to comply with school disciplinary action and continue therapy.
The teen's next court date is set for Feb. 28, 2023, via zoom.
The false threat comes on the heels of a worrying trending of threats on the rise at school districts across Metro Detroit. Local law enforcement officials continue to say they will investigate each case seriously and prosecute those responsible, whether threats are deemed credible or not, to the fullest extent of the law.
