16-year-old shot and killed while walking to gas station with friends in Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) -- A 16-year-old boy is dead after being shot and killed walking to a gas station on Detroit’s northwest side early Monday morning.

Detroit police are asking for the public’s help in tracking down a suspect in the shooting, which happened around 2 a.m. in the 6500 block of Linwood, near W. Grand Boulevard.

The teen, whose name has not been released, was apparently walking to the gas station with an adult and another teen when an unknown suspect pulled up in a red Chevy Impala and opened fire, striking the 16-year-old boy.

No other injuries were reported.

Police say the Impala is missing a rim on the front passenger tire.

Authorities do not have a description of the suspect, but have released a surveillance photo of the suspect’s vehicle.
