17-year-old girl killed by shots fired into BMW in Detroit

(WWJ) Police are investigating a shooting that took the life of a teenage girl Monday evening in Detroit.

According to investigators, it happened at around 6:15 p.m. in the area of Diversey and Asbury Park, south of Tireman and east of the Southfield Freeway.

Police said a 19-year-old man was driving a white BMW with two female passengers — both of them 17 year-old girls — when unknown suspects pulled up in an unknown vehicle.

One of suspects fired shots into the victims' car, striking one of the girls.

The driver drove to Hazel Park where he called 911, police said.

The victim was then taken by EMS to a a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

No one else in the car was hurt.

Further details, including a deception of the suspects or a positive motive for the shooting, are unknown as the investigation gets underway.

The name of the victim has not been released.
