EASTPOINTE (WWJ) - A 60-year-old man is in custody after a young man was shot and killed in Macomb County Friday evening in what police are calling a road rage incident.
Eastpointe police told WWJ they first received a call regarding the shooting around 7:51 p.m. and officers were dispatched to the area of Stricker and David.
Upon arrival, officers found an 18-year-old man in the road with an apartment gunshot wound -- he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 60-year-old man told police he shot the victim, officials said, claiming he did so in self defense.
Police believe the incident came about due to road rage.
Authorities told WWJ that the 18-year-old was riding a mini bike when he drove up to the passenger side of a Ram pickup truck which the 60-year-old man was driving.
Police did not release the details surrounding how the 60-year-old came to shoot the young man, but authorities did say the incident was caught on a Ring doorbell camera and they are still investigating at this time.
The two occupants in the Ram truck -- the shooter and the passenger -- are fully cooperating with police, authorities said.
The 60-year-old man was taken into police custody and may face charges pending a review with the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, police added.
