DETROIT (WWJ) - It was a wild scene for state police in Wayne County after they say a young male stole a truck, struck a person and crashed into another vehicle while trying to flee from police Wednesday night.

Michigan State Police said the trouble began around 10:35 p.m. after the Westland Police Department notified officials in Detroit that it was electronically tracking a stolen white 2021 Ford F-150.

Authorities said the owner of the truck tried to confront the suspect, identified only as an 18-year-old male, as he was allegedly stealing the vehicle.

The suspect took off from the home in the truck, striking the owner as he did, police added.

Troopers were able to catch up to the stolen vehicle on eastbound Davison near Livernois in Detroit. When state police activated their emergency lights, the suspect ran a red light and crashed into another pickup truck.

Police said the driver of the second truck took off while the suspect in the stolen F-150 fled on foot.

Troopers were able to catch up to the 18-year-old and arrested him.

The suspect and the stolen truck were turned over to Westland police officers at the scene.

The 18-year-old suspect now faces possible charges pending the Wayne County Prosecutor's review.
