ELK RAPIDS (WWJ) -- Two young children -- aged nine and ten -- are back with their parents after appearing to have wandered off a trail near Elk Lake in Northern Michigan on Sunday afternoon.
According to the United States Coast Guard's (USCG) Twitter account for the Great Lakes region, the boys were reported missing around 3:30 p.m. on Mar. 19.
The kids had last been seen outside, near Chippewa Trail, which runs parallel to the west border of Elk Lake. A search of the area uncovered the boys' shoe prints leading up to the ice-covered water.
In addition to the USCG, local police, fire rescue, EMS and ice rescue teams were dispatched to aid in the search.
USCG also sent out a MH-60 helicopter from their Traverse City air station and a boat crew from their Charlevoix station.
Around 6:30 p.m., the Antrim County Sheriff's Office posted a picture of the kids -- David and Caden -- to their Facebook page, asking nearby residents to keep an eye out for them.
Fortunately, none of the rescue crews or medical teams were necessary
A tip came into the Antrim County Sheriff's Office, and the boys were found safe and uninjured at an area elementary school around 7:30 p.m.
"BZ [Bravo-Zulu] for the swift coordination between our crews and all the local first responders!" Tweeted the USCG Great Lakes account.
