ORION TWP., Mich. (WWJ) – An Oakland County teen is in critical condition and another has been released from the hospital after a head-on collision between two trucks in Orion Township Sunday night.
Police believe the teen driver may have been drinking alcohol before the crash.
A 16-year-old was driving a 2004 Ford Ranger pickup truck westbound on Clarkston Road shortly before 9:30 p.m. when his vehicle collided with a 2013 Ford F-350 truck that was headed eastbound, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said.
The collision happened in a no-passing zone near Beach Drive in Orion Township.
A preliminary investigation suggests the Ford Ranger crossed the centerline at the time of the crash.

The 16-year-old was hospitalized in critical condition, while his 17-year-old passenger was treated for injuries and released from the hospital.
Police said it did not appear either person in the Ranger was wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the Ford F-350, a 21-year-old Oxford Township man, was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the collision, according to the sheriff’s office.
While authorities suspect the teen had been drinking, a blood sample was taken, but the results of the analysis were still pending Monday morning. Police did not suspect the other driver was under the influence.
The crash is still under investigation.
