
MONROE (WWJ) -- At least two people were shot by a high-powered rifle in an overnight shooting in Monroe County, according to officials.
Monroe police said they were called to the 100 block of East Eighth Street at around 12:15 a.m. for reports of shots fired.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers said they discovered evidence of a shooting and that at least one person was struck. The evidence included shell casings that came from a high-powered rife, said authorities.
Shortly thereafter, police were called to the home of a 42-year-old victim of the shooting who said he was shot in the lower extremities. Officials said he was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to the victim, he was sitting inside of his parked vehicle talking to a friend who was standing outside the car when someone fired multiple shots at both of them. He said he drove home and called the police.
The second shooting victim was also struck in his lower extremities and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said there are indications of a third shooting victim, but an identity has not yet been determined.
