HOLLAND TWP., Mich. (WWJ) – A crash into a pond in Ottawa County takes the lives of two children and a baby after the SUV a woman was driving rolled over and landed in a pond in West Michigan Thursday morning.

A 30-year-old woman was driving in Holland around 11:30 a.m. when she hit a curb and rolled over into the pond along James Street, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said.

The SUV landed in about 3-4 feet of water, with three boys – ages 1, 3 and 4 – inside.

The sheriff’s office said the woman was able to escape on her own and sustained unspecified injuries.

The children, however, were trapped upside down in their car seats inside the vehicle.

Several sheriff’s deputies and Holland Township firefighters got in the water and were eventually able to get the children out, according to a report from WOOD TV in Grand Rapids

The 3- and 4-year-old boys were pronounced dead at a hospital, while the 1-year-old was pronounced dead hours later.
