DRYDEN, Mich. (WWJ) -- A grandmother, her granddaughter and two great-granddaughters have been killed in an explosion and fire at a home in Lapeer County early Monday morning.
Emergency responders remained on the scene for several hours after the fire broke out at the Victoria Meadows Mobile Home Park in Dryden.
Authorities said the fire broke out around 5:20 a.m., quickly spreading through the structure.
WXYZ reported that the grandmother was in her 80s and the 39-year-old granddaughter had two teenagers: a boy and a girl.
The Michigan State Police Fire Investigation Unit is working with local authorities to determine what caused the fire.
Officials with Consumers Energy were at the scene investigating whether the explosion was gas-related.
Neighbors like Lindsey Wentworth said they felt the early-morning explosion.
"You wake up to a big explosion in the middle of the night and you look out and just see the house engulfed in flames and it's 'what can I do?' Wentworth told WWJ's Ryan Marshall.
Authorities have not released the names of the victims.
