For the third time in recent days, a child is injured after getting his hands on a gun.
In this case, police say the victim was 4 years old. He allegedly grabbed a gun in his house, on Hubbell near Grand River, and accidentally shot himself at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday.
He was taken to the hospital and was last reported in stable condition. It's unknown where the gun was being stored, if it was purchased legally and licensed, and where exactly the child shot himself.
What we do know is that a 3-year-old boy was killed in Lansing on Friday when he accidentally shot himself, and on Wednesday, an 18-month old grabbed a gun and shot his 5-year-old sibling.
"This is why we emphasize gun safety in the of Detroit, with gun locks and lock boxes," Detroit Police Tenth Precinct Commander Tiffany Stewart said about the toddler shooting a few days ago, adding, "There have been far too many of these types of incidents."
