1. 6th Annual Detroit Festival of Books

Bookworms, it’s time to gather at Eastern Market! The 6th Annual Detroit Festival of Books will feature vendors selling a wide variety of books — used, rare, antiquarian, unusual, ephemera, authors and beyond. Attendees can also shop a selection of vinyl records, comic books, creative arts, vintage board games and more! Entry is free, plus enjoy food, beer & DJ Seven Whales spinning funk music while you shop.

Sunday, July 16 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. at Eastern Market in Detroit

2. Bike Safari at the Detroit Zoo

Grab your helmets — Bike Safari at the Detroit Zoo is back this weekend! Enjoy this exclusive opportunity to ride your bicycle through the zoo and enjoy an after-hours look at your favorite animals. This event is for guests of all ages. The course has a variety of surfaces and a combination of uphill and downhill portions, as well as tight turns and flat stretches. Child carriers, tricycles, bicycle trailers and training wheels are allowed on this family-friendly adventure.

3. Blake’s Lavender Festival

Immerse yourself in tranquil orchards and stroll the open-air marketplace featuring more than 200 artisans this weekend at Blake's Annual Lavender Market! Enjoy refreshing lavender lemonade or ice cream, as well as other homemade lavender treats. Returning this year will be limited, seasonal lavender-infused hard cider and beer. Plus, check out a variety of free classes, speakers and demonstrations on topics such as natural wellness, aromatherapy, farming and gardening, benefits of local honey and more.

4. 40th Annual African World Festival

Head to Hart Plaza in Detroit this weekend for the Charles H. Wright Museum's 40th annual African World Festival -- 3-day celebration that highlights the beauty, strength, and spirit of the African Diaspora. Over 25,000 people are expected to enjoy the festival, featuring multiple stages filled with entertainment, and over 125 vendors with food, clothing, health products, visual arts, live demonstrations, community resources and information, and much more!

5. Pig & Whiskey

Pig & Whiskey is back again for a weekend of fun in Downtown Ferndale! For 14 years, the festival has brought an insanely delicious combination of music, food, drink and best of all, people, to the streets of Woodward Avenue. Across the sprawling footprint of Ferndale, festival goers are bound to find something that satisfies their hunger, with a variety of BBQ, whiskey, and a ton of local talent.
