ANN ARBOR (WWJ) -- Ann Arbor Public Schools has announced that classes on Monday will be canceled due to a staffing shortage.
A letter sent to parents Wednesday by the district outlines the reasons leading up to the decision.

Superintendent Jeanice Swift says one factor is the low attendance that typically occurs among students and staff between Halloween and Election Day.
Swift adds the break is being implemented "to provide some relief during this demanding fall for our students and staff" while they continue to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
The letter also apologized for possible scheduling conflicts that parents may face due to the short notice of canceled classes.
“We understand this situation will be exacerbated during this COVID time, and full staffing of operations for that day will present a significant challenge,” Swift writes.
“We continue to be concerned and focused on supporting our school and district teams that are stretched thin, addressing daily staffing challenges across all job categories in the organization, as well as shoring up all components of system operations,” she continued. “The strains of this fall return are not unique to the Ann Arbor Public Schools; they are pervasive in school districts and communities across the country.”
Meanwhile, AAPS continues to look to fill numerous positions within its schools.
