GRAND RAPIDS (WWJ) -- After a three year absence, ArtPrize returns Thursday to Grand Rapids.
The international art competition will be back for the first time since 2018 with a range of pieces that are displayed throughout Grand Rapids, according to ArtPrize spokesperson Karie Sprygada.
“[There will be] anything from a 30 foot robot that breathes fire, to some beautiful murals that have been put in,” she said.
Sprygada explains to WWJ’s Beth Fisher that, while it is juried art competition, a public component allows attendees to give a little extra to their favorite artists.
Festival goers can scan QR codes to award 500 monetary prizes to the artists that range from $250 to $1,500, and also better their chances of taking home the $50,000 grand prize.
Art can be found across 167 venues in Grand Rapids, which will host both indoor and outdoor displays. A new online action this year will also allow art lovers to purchase some of the pieces included in the event.
ArtPrize runs from Thursday, September 16 through Sunday, October 3.
