Stone Temple Pilots headline Arts, Beats & Eats as festival returns to Royal Oak

(WWJ) -- A metro Detroit Labor Day weekend tradition is making its return in a big way after being canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Arts Beats & Eats announced the music lineups on Wednesday for the festival Sept. 3-6, with Stone Temple Pilots headlining the festival’s opening night.

The rock legends, known best for their songs “Interstate Love Song” and “Plush,” are one of the biggest acts ever in the 24-year history of the downtown Royal Oak end-of-summer festival.

STP will play on the Michigan Lottery National Stage Friday at 10 p.m., with The Guess Who taking the stage at 8 p.m.

Alternative/Indie act Neon Trees will headline Saturday’s show, while country star Justin Moore is Sunday’s headlining act.

Hip-hop/R&B artist Bobby Brown will put the wraps on the festival Monday at 8:30 p.m.

In addition to the headliners, there are more than 200 other performers across nine stages throughout the weekend. The entire lineup can be found on the Arts, Beats & Eats website.

The “beats” are just one component of the festival, as more than 40 local restaurants and caterers will be serving up their food throughout the weekend and more than 100 artists booths will offering jewelry, ceramics, paintings and more.

Organizers say they’ve done away with the festival’s traditional food tickets, “to offer attendees more flexibility and reduce touch points.” Patrons will now be able to purchase all concessions directly from restaurants and bars with a “pay-as-you-go” system via cash and credit card transactions. See a list of participating restaurants and vendors on the festival’s website.

As for the arts, the art fair will run daily Friday-Monday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. A list of artists can be found here.

More information on the festival, including COVID-19 guidelines, can be found on the FAQ page.
