ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - Emergency personnel had to administer Narcan to a baby girl after they learned she had come into contact with highly potent drug, state police said on Saturday.
Michigan State Police said a trooper on patrol in the area of Little Mack and Masonic in Roseville when they were flagged down by a frantic motorist who said her child was not able to breathe.
As the trooper came up to the mother's vehicle, she handed off her 18-month-old daughter. The trooper immediately did a sternum rub on the child and she slowly began to breathe.
He called EMS for back up and they arrived on scene to provide further assistance.
MSP said a brief investigation revealed the baby girl had ingested heroin and personnel administered Narcan -- the child began to breathing better, but was taken to a local hospital where she was said to now be in stable condition.
Authorities said the mother, a 31-year-old woman from Roseville, had 15 doses of power heroin inside red and black capsules in her possession -- police claimed she tried to hide them during their investigation.
A 3-year-old child was also in the car at the time of the incident, police added.
The mother and the two children were transported to the hospital where authorities said the mother is waiting to be cleared -- she will then be taken to the Macomb County Jail.
The children will receive necessary medical treatment and will be placed by Child Protective Services when they are cleared.
Authorities did not release the identity of the woman, but said charges are pending the prosecutor's review.
