DETROIT (WWJ) – A barricaded gunman situation on Detroit’s west side has ended peacefully.
Detroit police officers had been called to the scene in the 1600 block of Van Buren – near Joy Road and the Southfield Freeway – early Monday afternoon.
Officials were asking the public to avoid the area as officers worked to “reach a peaceful resolution.”
Authorities say the Crisis Negotiation Team and 6th Precinct officers safely de-escalated the situation about an hour after officers responded to the scene.
Officials have not released many details about the situation, but say a person who was in mental distress has been taken to a hospital and the home has been cleared. Surrounding streets have reopened to the public.
It was not clear what events led to the situation or whether anyone else was inside the home.
Police did not report any injuries.
