DETROIT (WWJ) – The Giant Slide at Belle Isle will be back up and running soon.

The slide, which reopened on Friday after years of being closed, went viral on social media over the weekend after riders were sent flying due to high speeds.

Park officials said Friday they were going to make some adjustments to make the slide safer for riders.

On Sunday morning officials said they have scrubbed down the surface and started to spray a little water on the slide between rides to help control the speed.

Belle Isle’s Facebook page posted a video of a DNR ranger explaining how to safely go down the slide including leaning forward and “holding on tight.”

Though Sunday's rainy weather has the slide closed, officials plan to keep the slide open for the next two weekends from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and it will cost $1 for a ride.

Sliders must be 48 inches or taller.

The video of sliders flying and slamming around the slide got tons of attention on social media, including memes, comments, thousands of shares, and even a song from Detroit rapper GMac Cash.
