(WWJ) -- President Joe Biden is expected to make an appearance in Michigan next week ahead of the launch of Ford’s new electric F-150.
The President, who's trip could be announced by the White House later today, will likely first head to Ford Motor Co.’s Rouge Electric Vehicle center for a tour of the facility where the F-150 Lightning EV is being built.
Biden’s walk-through will reportedly include a reveal of the new pick-up truck, as well as a technical presentation of the all-electric vehicle. He is also expected to make remarks about the truck being built by UAW workers.
Last month, during a joint address to congress, Biden spoke of his insistence that the future of electric automobiles be made by unionized workers, saying, “there’s no reason why Americans — American workers, can’t lead the world in the production of electric vehicles and batteries.”
As part of his $2 trillion jobs and infrastructure package, the president has proposed a $174 billion plan to lead the global electric vehicle market.
Ford plans to reveal the new electric version of the F-150 on Wednesday, May 19. The motor company will livestream the event from Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Biden's appearance in Michigan will mark his second since taking office in January. He also visited a Pfizer manufacturing facility in west Michigan back in February.
