PORT HURON (WWJ) -- A family outing near Port Huron turned tragic over the weekend when a Marysville man drowned while boating.
According to the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office, 58-year old Donald Maul was swept away by the current when he jumped into the water to set an anchor for his boat near Lighthouse Beach, where Lake Huron flows into the St. Clair River.
That's near the Dunn paper company, in the area of Omar and Garfield streets.
A U.S. Coast Guard vessel assisted in the search and rescue effort, following the incident at around 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Sheriff Mat King told WWJ Newsradio 950 that the sheriff's office dive team recovered Maul's body from about 42-feet of water, south of the Blue Water Bridge.
Reports said Maul's wife and child were on the boat when it happened
