GOGEBIC COUNTY (WWJ) -- A 37-year-old Upper Peninsula man who disappeared at the end of March was discovered dead after melting snow revealed tracks that led authorities to his body.
The Gogebic County Sheriff's Office made the grim announcement on Monday, April 10, exactly ten days after Rudy Patrick Massi, 37, of Wakefield was first reported missing.
Deputies said multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in the search for Massi since March 31, but it wasn't until warmer temperatures melted blankets of snow over the weekend that they discovered tracks.
The tracks eventually led authorities to Massi's body.
The sheriff's office said the man's death is currently under investigation. An autopsy is scheduled with the Gogebic County forensic pathologist.
Gogebic County sits in the southwestern most tip of the Upper Peninsula and borders Wisconsin to the south and Lake Superior to the north. Considered a rural location, roughly 14,400 people call Gogebic County home and part of the Ottawa National Forest resides within it.
Deputies gave their thanks to the public who called in tips that assisted in the case. The sheriff's office also credited the Ironwood Public Safety Department and the Park Falls Police Department in Wisconsin for their help.
