MONROE (WWJ) – Authorities are searching for the culprit after a bomb threat was made at Monroe County Community College.

Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the campus on Raisinville Road in Monroe shortly before 11:30 p.m. Sunday after school officials received a threatening post on social media.

The post alleged a bomb had been placed in one of the buildings on campus, according to the sheriff’s office.

Multiple sheriff’s office personnel responded, as well as three canine handlers that specialize in detecting explosives from the Michigan State Police.

After authorities conducted a lengthy search of all the buildings and grounds on campus, they determined there were no explosive devices. College officials assisted by providing access to the locked buildings.

It was not clear whether the threat impacted classes on Monday.

Investigators determined the social media post was a screenshot of a “recycled threat” from February, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators are aggressively trying to identify the person or people responsible for this current threat.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau at 734-240-7530.
