(WWJ) – It’s spooky season, and Detroit Paranormal Expeditions (DPX) is giving thrill seekers and paranormal believers a chance to sit in on a paranormal investigation at one of Michigan’s most haunted places.

Known for offering tours of haunted places in and around Detroit, DPX is taking it to the next level this October, inviting guests to come along for a trip to Bruce Mansion in Brown City, north of Imlay City in Lapeer County.

WWJ’s Erin Vee spoke with co-founder, Todd Bonner, about the Victorian mansion, which was built in 1876 by Scottish immigrant John G. Bruce. In 1881 a massive fire broke out in Brown City, destroying nearly the whole town, but the mansion was mysteriously spared from the fire and it has been the site of many paranormal experiences throughout its nearly 150 years in existence.

Bonner has had some of those experiences himself at the mansion, which is being restored by some of his friends.

“The first night we were there, we saw a shadow figure,” Bonner said. “I’ve done hundreds of these investigations all over the United States, and it still freaked me out,” he said.

As they were wrapping up their investigation, they saw a shadow jump towards them, causing them all to scream and most of the group ended up leaving, but he and a couple others stayed and had another haunting moment.

“We went upstairs on the second floor to kind of see where this thing went,” he said. “I looked on the stairs and I could see it peeking around the corner looking up the stairwell back at us and this time its eyes were glowing and the only way I can describe it, is it looked like bicycle reflectors, but there were no lights.”

He said that’s when they decided to go, because they were feeling “a darker type of energy.”

Those brave enough can go into the mansion themselves with Detroit Paranormal Expeditions on Fridays and Saturdays throughout the month.

Bonner says guests will get a two-hour floor-to-floor tour of the mansion and are encouraged to take pictures and record on their own while they investigate. Guests will get 20-30 minutes to go off on their own and explore the mansion.

Tickets are available here, but are going fast. Part of the proceeds go to efforts to restore the mansion.
