STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) -- An early-morning robbery at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant was foiled by multiple police departments, who arrested seven suspects.

Authorities say the attempted theft took place just before 5 a.m. Tuesday at the Stellantis Sterling Heights Assembly Plant parking lot on 17 Mile Rd.

According to WWJ's Charlie Langton, the crew appeared to be well-organized and tried to drive 10 new-model Dodge Ram trucks off the Stellantis lot.

Law enforcement was able to secure the parking lot before the suspects could escape.

As the alleged thieves fled, they rammed a gate, but failed to get out. One of the trucks also struck a Sterling Heights patrol car.

None of the officers or suspects involved in the confrontation were injured.

In total, seven suspects were taken into custody.

Sterling Heights Police were assisted by officers from Troy, Warren, Clinton Twp., Shelby Twp., and Utica.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sterling Heights Detective Bureau at 586-446-2825.
