DETROIT (WWJ) Multiple residents are trapped in their homes in northwest Detroit by ice that formed after a water main break last week.

A one-block stretch of Harlow Street, near Seven Mile and the Southfield Freeway, froze over, leaving a couple of cars stuck and residents trapped. The standing water turned to ice over the weekend, residents said.

Catherine Preston told WWJ's Jon Hewett her Honda Acura has been stuck in the ice since Saturday.

"It's a little frustrating, yes, but I can't do anything about it," she said.

Crews repaired the water main break that occurred on Friday. However, due to the freezing, heavy construction equipment needed to be brought in to break up the ice.

Authorities tell WWJ an excavator is on the way to help residents who are trapped in their homes or cars, as of about 5 p.m.
