SANDUSKY, Ohio (WWJ) -- It’s a sure sign that summer is near.
Cedar Point is opening up for the season this weekend.
The likes of Millennium Force, Planet Snoopy, funnel cakes, fresh-cut fries and other favorite rides, attractions and food will all be back as the amusement park kicks off the 2021 season on Friday. May 14.
While the thrills await those who seek them, it won’t be as simple as showing up to the park like in years past, as some COVID-19 protocols still remain in place. Park goers will need to reserve tickets and follow some protocols.
A list of reopening protocols that have changed from last year can be found on the Cedar Point website:
-- Reservations will be required for Cedar Point and Cedar Point Shores Waterpark. Both season pass holders and single-day ticketholders will need reservations. Reservations can be made here.
-- Temperature checks for guests have been discontinued.
-- The health screen questionnaire will be conducted by associates at all entrance gates and will not be through the Cedar Point mobile app.
-- There will be no limitations to ride capacity, but social distancing remains in place while waiting in line. Face coverings are recommended while riding rides.
-- Guests aged 10 years and older are required to wear face coverings while indoors, unless actively eating or drinking. Face coverings are not required outdoors unless it is not possible to maintain 6’ social distancing. Face coverings should completely cover the nose and mouth, and not have exhalation valves or vents, which allows virus particles to escape.
“The world needs more fun right now, and our team is ecstatic to welcome guests back to the park for a summer of new memories,” said Carrie Boldman, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. “With safety of guests and associates as our top priority, it’s time to get back to the things we know and love, including traditions with family and friends at Cedar Point.”
The 2021 season will begin with Cedar Point’s signature Frontier Festival, celebrating hope, health and harvest. The festival “transforms Frontier Town into a Wild West Hootenannny, brimming with live music, interactive games for adults and kids, festive decor, street entertainers and a mouth-watering food and drink menu.
Frontier Festival runs weekends, May 14-16 & 21-23, then daily May 28 through June 13.
