MILFORD (WWJ) – A 10-year-old child has died after falling off floating play equipment on the lake at Camp Dearborn in Milford on Wednesday.
Michigan State Police officials say the incident happened around 6 p.m. in the middle of the main lake at Camp Dearborn.
Witnesses told authorities the child was playing on the structure and fell. When first responders arrived, the child wasn't breathing.
Milford firefighters took the child to a hospital after finding a carotid pulse, and the child arrived at the hospital with CPR underway, but did not survive.
MSP officials did not say what type of injuries the child sustained in the fall. An autopsy will be performed Thursday.
The incident "appears to be a tragic accident," MSP officials said in a tweet.
Authorities have not released any other information about the incident, including the child's hometown.
Camp Dearborn is a park in Milford Township owned by the city of Dearborn that features lakes, ponds, camping and other activities.
