(WWJ) A community is in mourning after a police chief in Macomb County has died of COVID-19.
Officials in Clinton Township told WWJ Newsradio 950 on Monday that Police Chief Fred Posavetz has died from complications due to the respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus.
Posavetz began his career with the Clinton Township police department nearly 41 years ago. In 2007, he was promoted to Police Chief. Clinton Township Supervisor Bob Cannon says Posavetz was exactly what you would want in a police chief – an effective, dedicated, compassionate, and non-judgmental leader.
Clinton Township Supervisor Bob Cannon said Posavetz was exactly what you would want in a police chief – an effective, dedicated, compassionate, and non-judgmental leader.
“As Chief, Fred was always proud to promote and swear-in new police officers,” said Cannon, in a statement. “At these events, he emphasized the positive qualities of each officer, then he acknowledged and thanked the families for attending and for what would be their child’s next 25-years of service to the community.”
Cannon said that family and community were Posavetz’s top priorities.
“Fred lived and loved the life he chose, and he was very proud that his sons followed his footsteps into law enforcement.”
Posavetz was 64 years old.
