
CLINTON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - One man is dead in Clinton Township after police said he was struck by a pickup truck while walking along Metropolitan Parkway late Thursday evening -- and alcohol may be to blame.
The Clinton Township Police Department said they're continuing to investigate into the crash that killed a 30-year-old male resident around 11:45 p.m. on Dec. 30.
According to a preliminary investigation, police determined the man was walking along Garfield Road and was crossing eastbound Metropolitan Parkway when a gray 2022 Nissan Frontier traveling east hit him.
The driver, who also resides in Clinton Twp., remained on scene and was cooperative with officers.
"The crash occurred on a portion of E/B Metropolitan Parkway which is straight in its configuration," police said of the scene. "Metropolitan Parkway has a posted speed limit of 55 MPH. It has a total of three lanes on the E/B side, divided by a grass median, and four lanes on the W/B side, three travel lanes and one dedicated turn lane."
Police said alcohol may have contributed to the crash, but did not clarify whether they suspected the pedestrian or the driver of drinking.
