WAYNE COUNTY (WWJ) — A 15-year-old student was arrested by Southgate police officers after some allegedly threatening message were uncovered Thursday evening.
The police department said the messages were traced back to a female freshman who attends Southgate Anderson High School in Wayne County. When confronted by officers, the teen admitted to sending the threating message and was taken into custody.
The student is currently being held at the Wayne County Youth Home and a warrant request is pending the Wayne County Prosecutor's review; official charges against the student are expected to be made, the department said.
Police did not disclose what the messages said or where they were posted.
"...[We] will exhaust all necessary recourses to investigate and hold those who threaten the safety of our schools accountable," the Southgate Police Department said in a press release.
In the months since the deadly Oxford High School shooting on Nov. 30, 2021, school officials and authorities across Metro Detroit have been cracking down on threats and scares.
Wayne County Prosecutor told WWJ that her office will take every school threat "very seriously" and there could be severe consequences for those who make threats.
“Whenever you make such a threat, it’s not fun, it’s not funny, it’s not a game,” Worthy told WWJ.
