CPL holder shoots man who punched him at Pontiac party store: sheriff

The shooter is in custody while prosecutors determine if it was justified

(WWJ) A 26-year-old man who was attacked in a Pontiac party store is in jail after fatally shooting his alleged assailant.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office says surveillance video from the Huron Liquor Store on E. Huron St. shows a customer paying for his items Thursday night when another man comes in and begins punching him.

During the fight, it's alleged the customer drew a handgun at least two shots were fired.

The 26-year old gunman, who officials say has a Concealed Pistol License (CPL), went home, had his mother call police and was arrested.

OCSO deputies arrived on scene to find the 34-year-old shooting victim lying in the aisle of the store suffering from two gunshot wounds -- one to the chest and the other to his pelvic area. He was take by EMS to McLaren Oakland Hospital where he died Friday morning.

Once the investigation is complete, the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office will determine if the shooting was justified or if charges will be filed against the CPL holder.

It's not yet clear what prompted the initial attack.
