ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) - The body of a woman found deceased along I-94 in Macomb County has been identified as 17-year-old girl from Detroit, state police said on Saturday.

Michigan State Police said the teen's family has been notified, but they're still requesting public assistance, hoping to find a witness who can provide a suspect or vehicle description to help with their investigation.

Troopers first became aware of the incident after callers began reporting a body on the freeway around 7:45 a.m. Friday near 9 Mile Road in St. Clair Shores.

When police arrived on scene, a woman was found deceased with head injuries on the eastbound side of I-94 -- MSP Special Investigation Detectives later determined the deceased had sustained a gunshot wound.

In Saturday's update, police once against urged tipsters to come forward "for her, her friends and her family."

Police have been asking local drivers to check their dash cam footage if they were in the area.

"If you have a dash cam on your vehicle or truck and were on the freeway at that time we are asking that you review any video for anything suspicious," MSP said on social media on Friday.

Anyone with information has been urged to call Crime Stoppers at 800.SPEAK.UP (1-800-773-2587) or online here -- all tipsters through Crime Stoppers can remain 100% anonymous.
